TAKENA KIWANIS----SERVING THE ALBANY COMMUNITY

As Garrison Keilor said, "There is no law or provision in the Constitution that requires us to give to support those in need." But we, as a community with a heart, can voluntarily give of our resources and time to assist in making the community of Albany the best in Oregon. Here are some of the ways the Albany Takena Kiwanis have supported its community:

Kids Track Meet---In partnership with the Albany Boys' and Girls' Club, Takena Kiwanis has sponsored a track meet for 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade kids for 35 years. Over 200 kids participate in this event each year. Program sponsors help our club raise over $2000 to give back to the community... because we care.

Linn Christmas Greeters---This organization annually provides Christmas gifts to needy children in our community. Takena Kiwanis has become a major donor to LCG and provides significant hours of service to assist with the collection and distribution of gifts. Christmas is a more meaningful time for hundreds of children... because we care.

High School Honors Dessert---Each spring Takena Kiwanis gives special recognition to the outstanding seniors at South Albany, West Albany and Santiam Christian High Schools. This has become a special time for inviting the students and their parents to honor those young people who have studied hard and served well during their high school years…because we care.

Fund Raising---Each year Takena Kiwanis raises money through their successful "Cans for Kids" program, Stahlbush Farms Berry Sales, and Track Meet advertisements. Profits from these fund-raising activities are returned to the community in many ways--because we care.
