Alpha Tau Upsilon Chapter Programs
Phi Theta Kappa’s purpose is to first and foremost recognize scholarly achievement among two-year college students. In addition to this, members have opportunities for personal growth through involvement in a variety of programs centered on the Society Hallmarks of Scholarship, Leadership, Service and Fellowship.
Service Hallmark
Operation Green: Improving our Communities
Phi Theta Kappa selects an International Service Program to become the focus of service activities carried out by chapters and regions. The current program is Operation Green: Improving Our Communities, a partnership with Keep America Beautiful. Last year our local chapter participated in beach and river cleanups and adopted the Teloh Calapooia Park in Albany.
Project Pageturner
Project Page Turner is an educational program designed to teach children about the benefits of reading and how fun it can be. It brings together students from a local elementary school, LBCC students, and Calapooia Middle School leadership students. The volunteers spend approximately two hours reading to children. During the course of the event, the children will each be allowed to choose two books to take home. The students also get their picture taken with their favorite story book character. Last spring, Phi Theta Kappa partnered with Student Life & Leadership for Project Pageturner and is planning to again next quarter.
Relay for Life
Phi Theta Kappa has raised over $1 Million for the American Cancer Society. Each June, our chapter participates in the Relay for Life on the LBCC Campus. More than three million people participate in corresponding events nationwide. The overnight event celebrates cancer survivors and raises money for research and ACS programs. Participating teams walk or run laps, and each team tries to keep at least one member on the track at all times.
Fellowship Hallmark
Phi Theta Kappa is truly a fellowship of scholars. As such, the hallmark of Fellowship is an intrinsic part of all Society programs. On November 16th, our chapter is hosting a social for current and potential members. There will be fun and games and a chance for everyone to learn more about Phi Theta Kappa.
