Frequently Asked Questions

What are the elegibility requirements?

Phi Theta Kappa membership is based on academic achievement. Students must be enrolled in at least one credit at Linn-Benton Community College, must complete a minimum of 12 credits leading towards an associate degree and must have an accumulative grade point average of 3.5 or higher and must enjoy the full rights of citizenship.

I am already a member of another Honor Society, does that effect my membership in Phi Theta Kappa?

No, membership to other Honor Societies has no bearing on whether you can become member in Phi Theta Kappa. Many students who excel in their education join numerous Honor Societies during their college career.

How much time will being a member take?

The time a member devotes to Phi Theta Kappa is a matter of individual choice. Some Phi Theta Kappa members choose to devote many hours to chapter activities; others may elect to not participate at all. Phi Theta Kappa's Constitution requires only that a prospective inductee make and maintain certain GPAs. No service activities may be required of new or old members; nor can the chapter withhold any benefits (i.e., wearing honors stole; receiving scholarship recommendations).

What about fees?

The Phi Theta Kappa International Membership fee is $70. It is paid only once. $45 to cover national lifetime dues, $10 to cover regional lifetime dues and $15 for chapter lifetime dues.

How do you become a member of Phi Theta Kappa?

Contact our chapter advisor, Dave Becker, at (541)917-4264 for an application form.

What is required to maintain membership?

After induction, members must maintain an accumulative GPA of 3.33 or higher.

What happens to my membership if I discontinue attending college, graduate, or transfer to another school?

Phi Theta Kappa is a lifetime membership. As long as you maintained a 3.33 accumulative grade point average while at LBCC, your membership will remain throughout your life.
