All-USA Community College Academic Scholarships
Phi Theta Kappa is currently accepting applications for the All-USA Community College Academic Team. There are two available slots, and the winners will each receive a $1000 transfer scholarship to any college or University in Oregon and the chance to represent LBCC at the national conference. The applicants need not be members of Phi Theta Kappa, but must have a 3.25 GPA.
Applications are available from Dave Becker (917-4264) in B109 and must be returned by November 26 at 1:00 p.m.
To be eligible students must:
- Be currently enrolled at LBCC
- Completed at least 60 credits by the end of this quarter (includes transfer credits)
- Completed at least 45 credits at Linn-Benton Community College
- On track to complete 79.5 credits by August 31, 2008
- On track to obtain either an Associate or Bachelor Degree
- Have a minimum cumulative 3.25 GPA (only coursework from the last 5 years is counted when calculating the GPA)
- LBCC record must be free from suspension, probation or other serious disciplinary action
- Record must be free from any criminal conduct or if a convicted felon, has completed all conditions of sentencing, including probation
- Must be the first time to be nominated for the All-USA Community College Academic Team
- Cannot be applying for other All-USA Academic Teams this year (i.e. All USA Four-Year College Academic Team)
Students must complete the application and a 500 word essay describing your most significant endeavor since attending community college
Students must obtain three letters of recommendation, including:
- Letter from present community college educator addressing the your scholastic, analytical and intellectual capabilities.
- Letter from college faculty, administrator or dean which gives specific examples of your leadership abilities, service involvement and impact outside the classroom.
- Letter from a mentor or supervisor that was directly involved with what you write about in your essay describing the merits and impact of the endeavor.
