In the Beginning
I first joined up with First Burger back in January of 2015, with no intentions of staying with them this long. I was just some dishwasher trying to get work experience so I could move on to a better job. The company went through some major changes since I’ve been there, and now I’m 1 of 4 people who have been working at First Burger for over a year.
Management Changes
March 17th of 2015 was when First Burger was bought by Dennis Miller and his wife, Molly Miller. Throughout the year they have owned the business, they have struggled to get a grasp on how everything works. Many people have quit, many people have been fired, but the ones that still work, there are simply the ones who can do what it takes. Dennis came in, and changed how the business is run, while making things more complicated, he has made some major improvements.
How Far I've Come
What a journey it has been from when I started working, to where I am now. I went from Dishwasher, to Prep, to Line worker, to cook in all under a year. When in reality the job is not that serious, it still takes a well balance of skill and patience.
First Burger is a small business, but the place still gets packed to the brim, with people waiting outside just to get a bite. Not only that, but the place gets packed fast. Working on the grill takes a lot from a person; to be able to get food out under 15 minutes and balancing what goes on and what comes off. It’s a fast pace environment with little to no room for error.
While it is stressful at times, it also can be fun. The people I get to work with really makes First Burger, First Burger. With constant jokes being tossed at each other, the jokes of a few good friends in their very early 20s, to the kindness and anger that gets tossed around. The community is and will continue to be what gives First Burger the authenticity of what a small business really is.
